What's Your Favor Flavor?

Centuries ago wedding favors were something only royalty could afford. Today we see them at almost every wedding whether they be elaborate wine glasses or the more common practice of chocolate. Wedding favors are a symbol of gratitude and appreciation from the Bride and Groom to their guests for spending their special day together. It had to start somewhere…

Centuries ago, the upper class would give out boxes made from crystal or porcelain to their guests. These boxes would be filled with sugar cubes to symbolize wealth and royalty. At that time Sugar was an expensive commodity and not something everyone could afford, let alone give away as a gift. These ancient favors were called “bonbonnieres”.

Eventually, wedding favors became more common, and the price of sugar went up. The next step in the evolution of wedding favors was almonds. Almonds symbolized good wishes to the bride and grooms new life. Then, sugar and almonds were combined into sugar covered almonds thus merging the two original traditions as one. “Confetti” was the name given to these unique treats.

Now, favors have become immensely creative and we here at the Waterfront see a variety of ideas. The most recent we saw was peach scented soap wrapped in a custom paper with the Bride & Groom’s names and wedding date. Chocolate is another popular favor. Other ideas include, match boxes, wine or shot classes, lip balm and even custom goodie bags you can fill up with your own choice of candy from a candy buffet. One of our favorites was a small box with 2 tea bags inside. The table had a sign reading “Two for Tea and Tea for Two.” Adorable! We love the idea of Homemade Jam: “Spread the Love” and Scratcher Lottery Tickets: “Lucky In Love”.

If you have a theme wedding try fans, water bottles, bottle openers shaped like flip flops or tote bags. Many of these items would also be good ideas for your Bridesmaids and Groomsmen.

Wedding Traditions Part 4 – Western European Traditions

It is only fitting that Western Europe, some of the oldest surviving cultures, created many of our American wedding traditions. Italy, Germany, and England were the first to create many of the customs we as Americans consider “normal” for a wedding or engagement.

Let’s start with Italy (famous for being the heart of the Roman Catholic Church) which created the tradition of the “engagement ring.” Pope Nicholas I decided that an engagement ring must be presented in order to seal the agreement of a marriage. He also proclaimed that the ring be made of gold to signify the grooms financial ability to support his future wife. 617 years later, King Maximilian added a diamond to his engagement ring, and it has been that way ever since.

Italy may also take claim to the wedding cake tradition. In the 1st century BC it was customary for cake or bread to be broken over the bride’s head, thus the tradition of the “cake cutting”.

The Best Man tradition has Germany to thank. In olden days it was often necessary for a man to kidnap his bride from her village in order to prevent family members from stopping him. He would need his strongest and most trusted friend to help him do this thus, the Best Man.
“Something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue,” a rhyme many American’s and other cultures associate with marriage. It’s an ancient English nursery rhyme…. that’s all. Something old symbolizes continuity, something new symbolizes a hope for the future (now most commonly the wedding ring), something borrowed is a symbol of support from the family or a close friend and finally something blue is a symbol of purity in ancient times.

In Ireland a honeymoon was called “mi na meala” or “the month of honey.” It was intended to be a month of seclusion for the bride and groom to keep her family away. The idea was that in a month of drinking and alone time the bride would become pregnant and the bride’s family would now have a good reason to accept her husband into the family permanently.

So now you know! All traditions start somewhere; it is just exhilarating to find out exactly where they came from.

Wedding Traditions Part 3 - Eastern Eurpoean Traditions

Phew! If you thought African Wedding Traditions were varied check out the Eastern European Traditions!

Many similarities are present such as it is customary for the groom to ask the bride’s father for her hand in marriage. It is also common in many different cultures to smash dishes as a symbol of good luck. In many cases new couples are looking to go back to the more traditional customs that may have been forgotten in recent years. All European weddings focus around long life, fertility, happiness and prosperity.

In Bulgaria the engagement can last 1 day to 1 year depending on the local customs. Most weddings happen on Sunday, and it is considered good luck for the bride and groom to step into the church both with their right foot first! To us this may seem like a silly superstition, but this is a very important thing in Bulgaria.

Polish weddings have some fun traditions such as placing a funny hat on the groom during the ceremony. This symbolizes the marriage will be filled with happiness and laughter. The night before a Polish wedding the mother and female relatives of the bride will re-braid her single maidenly braid into two braids.

A Russian church ceremony is not considered a formal, official marriage. There is more emphasis put on the reception that can last up to 2 days! Music, dancing, feasting and drinking consume most of this event. Parties like this are also common in Greece.

An ancient Greek Tradition that has been carried on (although it is not that common anymore) is plate smashing. We’ve always wondered why plate smashing happened at weddings. A long time ago plate smashing occurred at funerals as a way of taking out your anger at the loss of your loved one. This custom transformed into the modern-day plate smashing which can symbolize two things: 1. New beginnings – the couple was throwing away their old life together, 2. To ward of evil spirits – the thought was that the spirits would sense anger in the plate smashing and not intrude on the festivities. Who knew!!

Don’t forget these are just snip-its of each tradition. Much, MUCH more goes into each wedding! We hope you have learned something about another culture by reading this because we sure did!

Wedding Traditions Part 2 – African Traditions

Another installment of our mini-series is here!

Africa is a very large continent including many countries, religions, races, traditions, etc. In general, family is the main focus for African weddings. Often times women are trained from a young age to become good wives.

Due to the high population of Muslim’s in Africa many of the wedding traditions branch off of Muslim traditions. Weddings that last more than 1 or 2 days are not uncommon. Morocco typically has weddings lasting 4-7 days! Can you imagine??

In Egypt there are still many arranged marriages. (However, arranged marriages are becoming less and less common regardless of religious background no matter where you go). Their ceremonial procession is called a “Zaffa”. They believe that the ring is worn on the left ring finger because of the “vein amoris” or the Vein of Love which in their beliefs runs straight to the heart.
In South Africa they follow the 12 symbols of life: wine, wheat, pepper, salt, bitter herbs, water, a pot and spoon, broom, honey, spear, shield and a copy of the bible.

It’s pretty amazing to see how different, yet similar, each of these cultures are to each other as well as to the culture here in the United States.

Wedding Traditions Part 1 – Asian Traditions

Weddings happen in every country, in every culture within every religion; each providing a different look into what a “wedding” means to the couple, family and friends involved. How fascinating it can be to compare and contrast the different cultures practices and rituals! We have decided to start a mini-series about Wedding Traditions! We find so many couples coming from different backgrounds that many of these traditions can be combined or modified in order to accommodate both cultures.

Here at The Waterfront we come across many Asian weddings. From Chinese, to Korean and Indian our Wedding Team is very versed in these traditions. So… what better way to start our mini-series then with Asian Wedding Traditions! (Note: these are a small fraction of what goes into each of these culture's wedding traditions)

In Chinese customs the color Red is often associated with the wedding. The bride traditionally wears a red dress, the invitations are red and sometimes even the bride and groom’s houses are decorated red for the wedding day. It is customary only to invite the bride and groom’s immediate family to the ceremony which will be followed by a tea ceremony in which the bride serves tea to her in-laws.

In Indian traditions it is customary for the groom to process in an elaborate manner. Sometimes on an elephant, horse or we’ve even seen a Lamborghini! The groom’s family dances their way up to the bride’s family who then ask the groom to marry the bride. Another tradition is to get the bride and bridesmaids decorated in henna tattoos for the wedding day.

In many Asian cultures it is not uncommon to see the bride in 3 or more different outfits for the evening. Japanese brides go from a white kimono for the ceremony, to a red kimono and/or a white “western style” wedding dress for the reception.

A Black Tie Affair

It seems that black and white weddings never go out of style. We continually see them come back every season. Why is that?

We think it’s because it lends itself to be a classic look! Black and White goes with every trend, fashion, and style. You can make it modern and contemporary or stick to traditional and elegant. What is even greater about black and white is that literally ANY accent color will work! From pastel yellow to hot pink virtually any splash of color that you add will work with this color scheme. So keep the black and white elegance, but add a color that matches your personality.

We decided to showcase black and white this month in our Waterfront Events Boutique. Each week we will feature a new accent color to go with our centerpiece provided by Paradise Delight Floral and Event Design. China, glassware, silver, chairs and chair cushions were provided by Classic Party Rentals. The China is actually black and it is to die for!

We have a fabulous table linen and napkins provided by La Tavola Linen. They also provided us with a matching 15” couch pillow which is super cool and ties the look into the entire room! Last, but certainly not least is the updated lounge furniture provide by AFR Event Furniture. It is fun and modern with a taste of tradition.

So keep the romanticism and add some flare! Black and White is definitely the way to go!

Dear Blank, Please Blank

Is social media taking away from courteous communication and eliminating the personal touch?

Wedding invitations, save the dates, thank you letters all sound so typical for what to send to your wedding guests before and after your wedding. We think of them as a way to inform our friends and family of our upcoming nuptials so they can plan to be there. Unfortunately to some, these once common party practices no longer exist. The movie Bride Wars comes to mind in this situation; Bride-to-be, Emma, sends out a poorly written mass email to her entire contact list as her “Save the Date” message. Would you do this?

Outlets like evite, facebook, and other social media networks have allowed for these practices to take place. They have their own form of invitations; much less personal than a hand written thank you or decorated save the date postcard, but it allows the event planner to send it to hundreds of people at the click of a button.

So, what is it about the 21st century that has created this culture? It’s sometimes even hard to get people to respond to an email, let alone send back an RSVP card even though the return envelope is pre-addressed and pre-stamped for you. Instant gratification maybe? The idea that you don’t have to leave your desk to get things done seems to have become the norm.

We think there are certain things that evite’s and facebook are acceptable for; girl’s night, meetings and even Holiday Parites, but stick to the formalities when it comes to your wedding. In addition to that, invitations have become more and more creative! Why not deck out your invitations as a memento for all those invited? Many people keep invitations on their fridge or at their desks for months or years after a wedding. This is one of the most important days in your life, make each detail count!

A Toast to You!

Where did the tradition of toasting at weddings and events begin? This common Western celebratory practice has been around for centuries longer than you or I could ever imagine, just not in the same form.

Ancient cultures used to offer wine to the gods as a form of sacrifice and acknowledgement. In the 17th Century the “toast” developed into the more commonly known practice of toasting the couple at a wedding, or toasting the host of an evening.

But why clink the glasses together? Myth reveals it as a way of preventing poisoning. In theory some of the drink would spill into the other person’s glass. Thank goodness there aren’t too many superstitious people around like that anymore! In reality, one of the reasons clinking continues, was a way to alert the 5th sense often forgotten when consuming alcohol; sound. How cool!

And why call it a “toast”? Wine and toast don’t have anything in common, right? Wrong. The name was given because toast was once dipped in wine to reduce the acidity of the wine AND wine was sometimes flavored with spiced toast!

So, toast away! However be sure to follow some simple Dos and Don’ts of toasting listed below:

Do: Stand when you are the one offering the toast.

Do: Continue to hold your glass up until the toaster is finished talking.

Don’t: Invert your glass if you don’t want to drink. It is considered courteous to accept the drink even if you are not intending to drink it.

Do: Thank the toaster in private afterwards if you are the toastee.

Don’t: Offer a toast to the guests of honor unless the host has already done so.

$150,000 Wedding was a Success!

Well, all of our hard work sure paid off! Peter Heck & Ivy Navarro Naumann had a fabulous time during their Dream Wedding Weekend, and are now enjoying their Honeymoon at the Cabo Azul Resort in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

Some highlights included:

A super handy “Shoe Check” at the beach ceremony. Flip flops, supplied by JMH Promotions, were distributed to any guests who wanted them as well. Just at the end of the stunning beach wedding, a fire engine came to salute them and whisk Peter and Ivy away.

Tuba Fire dancers kicked off the cocktail reception as guests enjoyed a signature drink called “What the Heck” poured from a custom ice luge from Carving Ice!

Peter & Ivy’s first dance was ON TOP OF THE POOL! We had a stage set up literally over the water provided by Fuller Street Productions. Watching the set up was a learning experience; the installation takes place underwater of course, goggles and all!

The Pacific Terrace was beautifully decorated with Lounge Furniture from AFR Furniture and lighting from our awesome in house AV Team, AVI/SPL!

There was even a photo booth by Elegant Fondue for guests to be a bit silly!

The ballroom was absolutely STUNNING!! The fabulous custom made table linen and chairs were provided by Fusion Linens and the elegant centerpieces were the amazing work of Flowers by Cina.

Our DJ was Tim from Invisible Touch. Who knew that a DJ could play the violin as well?

We had a Cappuccino Bar by Brew Ha Ha and Candy Buffet by Custom Candy Buffet Bars and even Wafflepalooza which was a build your own waffle station in the ballroom for after dinner treats in the evening.

A surprise at the end of the night was a Groom’s Cake by Rossmoor Pastries shaped just like Peter’s fire engine with surf board and all!

All of this could not be possible without the help of our outstanding coordinating team, A Divine Occasion, that really made the event over the top. They were there every step of the way ensuring that all of the details correct.

There were also many more vendors and helping hands that made this entire wedding truly one of the best we have seen. Thank you for all of your support!!!

Menu Tasting Event!

Wednesday was a fabulous evening filled with food, photos, friends and fun! We had a menu tasting for upcoming weddings so that the couples and their families could sample our fabulous food & wine! The evening began with a tour of the ballroom. We had a photo booth provided by Elegant Fondue Photo Booth and they also brought a Chocolate Fountain, yum! There were linen samples, cakes tastings, sample table set ups and of course wine!

Our banquet staff started everyone off with some lovely hors d’oeuvres such as Roasted Vegetable Empanadas & BBQ Shrimp Skewers. Next, we toasted the evening with Prosecco. The menu tasting began with a sample of each of our 3 salads, a taste of various intermezzos, a bite or two of each entrée (2 chicken, 3 fish and 2 steak) as well as a sampling of some cakes thanks to Colette’s Cake Goddesses.

We were very excited to be able to see some of our clients whom we haven’t seen for months! It is such a great feeling to be able to see an event from start to finish; something we take very seriously around here and enjoy very much.

We just re-did our table in our Events Boutique and would love for you to stop by for brunch and check it out! This month we went with a trendy gold and lilac color scheme. The gold in our table symbolizes the quickly approaching summer and the warmth of the color balances the deep purples and reds throughout the rest of the table. La Tavola Linens provided the table covering, napkins and chair covers. Also, don’t miss the fabulous gold sequin pillows that are now lining the furniture! We have shown you how an “organic” piece can mix with “glitz”! The trend in our industry of both organic décor and metallics are very well represented for this month!

The flower arrangements were handled by Bonne Fleur and they are gorgeous!! China, glassware, flatware, chargers and chairs are by Classic Party Rentals. We hope you like it!

Shedding for the Wedding

It seems to be that the majority of brides want to lose weight before their wedding. Why? They want to look their best in the photos of the most memorable day of their lives. Makes perfect sense. So how exactly do they lose the weight they want? Here are a few tips and tricks to lose that extra fat and tone up before your big day:

Exercise: you hear this all the time I'm sure, but it really works! Work out a minimum of 30 minutes per day at least 4 days a week and you will start to burn more calories than you consume! It doesn't work to start 1 month before your wedding, you should start now!

Eat smaller meals with more frequency: 6 small meals a day is ideal. Your body will burn more calories throughout the day if it is constantly working to digest your food.

Cut out the fat: get rid of those "vice" foods that you typically regret eating. Find 1 item that you love and save it for once a week. That way you have something to look forward to at the end of each week. It is ok to splurge as long as you don't do it all the time.

De-stress: we often turn to sugar or comfort foods when we're stressed. Yes, you probably think I'm crazy for thinking it's possible to de-stress before your wedding but here are a few tricks: Get a massage, get a facial, walk on the beach or go for a hike. These easy additions can be included in your daily or weekly routine and some of them are free!

Set reasonable goals: instead of saying "I want to lose 20 pounds before my wedding" tell yourself "I want to lose 2 pounds at the end of two weeks" Setting smaller goals can make it much easier to grasp the bigger picture. That way if you gain or lose a pound you don't get as discouraged or want to give up.

Do something fun: take a dance class or ride your bike with a friend, and most importantly try something new! It is never good to get stuck in the same dull routine and eventually get bored enough to quit. Change your routine monthly, weekly or daily!

In the end, it is all about making yourself happy and if happy means losing a few before your special day then you just need to make a plan and stick to it!

Catch the Candy Craze!

Thinking about a Candy Buffet at your wedding or social event? Well, you're not alone!

The Candy Craze is sweeping the nation, so don't miss out on being a part of this popular new trend!

Here are a few things to think about when planning your candy buffet:

1. Don't underestimate the amount of candy needed

Don't just get by buying enough candy to fulfill everyone, because you will realize the visual aspect has fallen short. Make sure that it looks as appealing as it tastes! Buy enough to fill the entire container or dish that you are showing it in.

2. Color coordinate

Keep to a theme: seasonal, tropical, holiday, whatever it may be for you; just stick to it! There is nothing less appealing than miss-matched colors at a beautiful wedding or party. Make your buffet glow!

3. Get Creative

Buy candy that has flavor! And I don't mean the taste. Shaped candy is a great way to add a little extra to your buffet. Seashells, hearts or flowers are a good place to start!

4. Get the right containers

Try a colored container, or clear container with a colorful candy inside. Try different shapes or textures, and don't forget the details! Add jewels or colored rocks to decorate the table, flower petals and candles work too!

So, moral of the story... When you can't decide on a favor for your event try a candy buffet! It will be a huge hit for all ages.

Weekend happenings!

With a somewhat dodgy outlook on the weather early in the week, The Waterfront crew pulled off a seamless weekend filled with weddings, fundraisers and much more!

We kicked off the weekend with a lovely wedding in our Pacific Ballroom! Congratulations to Mr. & Mrs. Michel for getting married this Saturday 2/19/2011!!

Sunday brought us a fundraiser/brunch for the Olive Crest group along with another wedding! Congratulations to Mr. & Mrs. McKenna on their wedding today 2/20/2011!! Later this evening we will be hosting a high school winter formal in our Grand Ballroom.

It is safe to say that this holiday weekend has brought a lot of fun & lasting memories to our guests!

Safe travels to the management team that earned a trip to Cabo this week! Hard work sure pays off here at the Waterfront. Eat lots of yummy food, enjoy the scenery and we can't wait to hear stories when you get back!

Urban Outfitters Bridal - BHLDN

Coinciding with Valentine's Day, February 14, Urban Outfitters launched their new Bridal Collection; BHLDN. BHLDN standing for Beholden is the latest edition to the Bridal Fashion World. This line not only includes gowns, but bridesmaid dresses, party dresses, lingerie, headpieces, jewelry, and footwear.

The BHLDN website has some insight as to what the line is all about. "...we think a moment should be as layered and dimensional as the women standing within it." Reflective on this statement is the ever so trendy Pleated Fantasy Gown shown to the left. Waterfront Events Boutique

Hello Waterfront Enthusiasts!

We have a new and fabulous addition at The Waterfront Beach Resort to help make your events even more spectacular! Our new Waterfront Events Boutique is an interactive event center created to help visualize the perfect day

In the Events Boutique we have many fun things to play with including hundreds of linens and when I say hundreds I mean hundreds! There are so many different colors, shapes and textures to choose from!

We also have a variety of up lighting selections in several different colors, from red to blue to purple. Another fabulous idea is our gobo lighting, which can be personalized to add a unique touch to the bride and groom’s special day.

In this amazing room we also have a marvelous table setup that is changed once a month with new everything, from linens to china and flatware and chairs. This table is a great visual to see what an incredible setup looks like. We are also able to show you what your table setup will look like with everything from linens to lighting.

We have some unbelievable cakes on display from a few of our bakeries. These cakes are stunning and portray only a glimpse of what these astounding bakeries are capable of! Speaking of sweets, candy buffets have become a booming trend and are a great take home for your guests at the end of the night and can be enjoyed throughout the entire evening.

Hi Waterfront Fans!

Before I talk about the fun stuff I want to introduce myself, I am the newest member of the Waterfront Wedding team! My name is Katie Shillito and I’m looking forward to sharing all the exciting things that happen here at the Waterfront Beach Resort!

A few weeks ago on October 5, 2010 we hosted here at the Waterfront Beach Resort, the WIPA (Wedding Industry Professionals Association) industry event where we were able to mingle with other wedding professionals. Originally this event was to take place on the pool deck but Mother Nature had a different plan. It turned out even better in the ocean view Cielo Mare Ballroom.

We had an amazing guest speaker join us, award-winning chef Andrew Spurgin of Waters Catering in San Diego, California. He dished up the new cutting-edge trends in culinary services and shared with us how to take your event to the next level with simplicity.

Our Chef Jeff Littlefield, took Andrew’s advice with the food and beverage trends and turned it into the most AMAZING meal!! We enjoyed many fun dishes including our lettuce baskets with assorted roasted veggies, prime ribeye steaks and herb risotto with parmesan cheese. While enjoying our delicious dinner we had the pleasure of listening to the fabulous ladies of the Del Lago Trio, our delightful entertainment for the evening.

To satisfy my sweet tooth, Lindsay from A Wish and a Wisk, out did herself with some of my favorite bite size desserts including s’mores bites, peanut butter cupcakes, lemon-berry cream cake. To add another fun element, we had our famous Boardwalk Bars, which are made to order chocolate dipped ice cream bars with custom toppings.

The best part about enjoying the desserts was that you could relax on this unique lounge furniture from AFR Events in Seal Beach, California!! It was certainly a comfortable spot to enjoy endless conversations with the many wedding professionals that were there.

On each of our dinner tables was a beautiful elegant flower arrangement by FlowerFusion in Costa Mesa, California. Each display had perfect purple orchids ordainded with crystals and candlelight.

Being the linen guru that I am, I fell in love with this new linen from BBJ linen. Kimberly truly outdid herself on the selection. If you haven’t ever seen Chamelon chairs, this is where it is at. They certainly made a huge transformation of the table as well.

We were fortunate enough to capture each aspect of this event with the help of the wonderful photographers with Luminaire Images. Molly you Rock!! This was a spectacular evening where we learned so much on how to improve every aspect of a perfect event and we will now have these amazing photos to share with all of you!

Hi friends!

Last week we took our adventures in to the big city... Los Angeles! Although it was a little unnerving leaving the OC - once we got past the Orange Curtain it was all fun and games! We attended BizBash at the LA Mart! I am including some great pictures of things we saw loved and definitely felt were note worthy enough to share with you! How fun is this set up for our Pacific Terrace! Glow furniture! Love it!
We met some wonderful wedding professionals and had a great time learning about new and upcoming trends and of course rubbing elbows with some of the best in the business! The infamous Mindy Weiss spoke about industry trends, Andrea Michaels talked about her new book "Reflections of a Successful Wallflower", and we ended with the ever fabulous Steve Kemble who spoke on being America's Sassiest Lifestyle Guru!
This picture is absolutely amazing to us! Rrivre Works created this rustic looking setting out of fabric! Even in person - it looked like wood. It is incredible what this company can do!
The Champagne Creative Group was one of our absolute favorite exhibitors! They have living red carpets - which you see pictured, a living buffet table (and she moves!), and even an opera singing door swag! Yes there is a lady standing above the door with swagging that makes it look kind of like you are walking between her legs! Hilarious! Talk about thinking outside the box.
We love this glitter elf! She was so fun and just created this great energy. These kind of things bring great conversation pieces to any party!
Such a beautiful and elegant lounge set up! This would definitely set the tone for an elegant affair!

Once again we have made our way into Ceremony Magazine! Not only do we have our advertisement which anyone can get but we have a featured wedding as well as some of the table designs were shot at our resort! Ceremony Magazine has created a way for you to actually view it online. There are tons of great vendors in this magazine and it is just a gorgeous publication.

The OC edition is the one that we are in the most however the LA edition does have some additional table decor as well that is fabulous! Click on the magazines above to see for yourself.

In the OC edition, check out Retro Chic on page 128, Uptown Girl on page 155. See if you can recognize the spots that the tables were set up! Our Fanciful featured wedding is on pages 319-321. Mary and Brian look so awesome!!

Let's Get Married!

Hello Waterfront Fans!

Happy New Year!

We had another great time and met some really great vendors and potential waterfront brides and grooms at S Fine Dinning Restaurant on Thursday, January 14th. It was the Let's Get Married Bridal Show and it was quite the show. Fabulous cakes from Final Touch Bakery, fashionable tables with linens by Fusion, and fun vendors (like ourselves).

You may recognize this restaurant from one of our previous posts. We have officially decided that S stands for Scallops as they have the BEST ever.

We devowered them in like 2.7 seconds. Dang they are good!

Our best find at the show was definitley Huey Bui Photography. Here are some pics of an adorable bride at our resort.

Another fun option that he can do is a huge photo booth where you can have big groups and act silly. You have so much more room and you know that we are always good for some crazy pics!

We gave away ring pops which are surprisingly much cooler then when we were kids. This last picture reminds me of Captian Planet...did anyone ever watch that show?

The event is held as the last meeting of the year and we honor those in the Wedding Industry who do an exceptional job! Crouching Orchids Dancing Dragons

Hello There Waterfront Fans!

Danielle and I have been super busy planning all of our brides' and grooms' perfect day but we are back! We will be blogging like crazy since there is so much fun stuff going on! This was one of our favorite weddings this year. They had some many original ideas and were just so much fun to work with! The Grand Ballroom is definitely the room that has the biggest transformations which you will be able to see for yourself thanks to William Lu with Bella Esposa Photography. Instead of your traditional guest book, they had pieces of material that each guest signed and then would be turned into a quilt. What a thought that you could cuddle with your wedding day memories! Onto the dragons, the tradition is that you put the red envelopes in the dragons mouth to bring good luck. The drums, chanting and dancing of the dragons was also so cool to watch.

The blue and Chocolate combo was absolutely stunning as you can see. I love when the wedding truly looks and feels like the bride and groom and they nailed it!

Hey there wedding fans! We had a very exciting wedding weekend. Can you believe this is our ballroom?It was completely transformed! And what a fabulous cake stand!!! I think the best part of the night was when the bride came in after the ceremony to see what we had been up to while she was getting ready. What a great feeling...

Watermelon Pucker, Melon Bacardi Rum and a splash of sweet and sour = the "Lei"tini! Don't forget the pink sugar rim!

I love this cork signing idea. It's kind of cork-y (ha ha)! Each guest signed a blank cork and could write a message for the couple. I have seen really cute frames that you can put these in after and have a picture from your wedding day be the backdrop. Love it!!!

Bridal Show at S Restaurant

Last night we attended the Bridal Show at S Restaurant which specializes in Vietnamese Cuisine with a French flair. Stephanie (the owner) is so amazing. She has such a passion for food and you can taste the dedication to her craft in every bite! Stephanie is also the owner of Final Touch Bakery which is one of our preferred vendors for wedding cakes!

Pictured on the left is her seared ahi tuna on fresh crispy won ton. The sauce was amazing!

She spoiled us so much by making our favorite dish! Sauteed Scallops with Sweet Basil Sauce! We had been dreaming about them all afternoon. Paired with a fabulous glass of chardonnay... what a night! Here is Vanessa enjoying our favorite dish!

We met some great vendors too! KC Floral Designs did the floral arrangements, Platinum Peaks was the DJ and MC for the night (we got to bust a move on the dance floor), Fusion Linens did all the linens, All Made Up was doing make up consultations and more!

We met up with Ngoc (pictured above) with SkyBox Event Productions. Danielle worked with her last year on Linda and Keith's wedding! Ngoc is such a fabulous wedding coordinator and she has a knack for designing fabulous invitations as well as some of the cutest wedding favors that we have ever seen! We also met the infamous Paper Girl (below) who does some pricey but FABULOUS invitations. She has a pink book baby announcement that was adorable!

Also take a look at some of the beautiful sample tables that Fusion Linens and KC Floral Designs created! BEAUTIFUL!

At the end of the night someone approached us and said "And I thought I worked a lot, but you two seem to be working all the time"... well it's not work when you love your job!

Rrivire Works Wedding Workshop

Hello Wedding Followers!

Well my recent adventure (and getting there was an adventure) was to downtown LA to Rrivire Works showroom. You go off the 10 under the overpass where they are selling chicken from a cart (how is that legal?) to your left to Vernon and if you manage to dodge all of the trucks then you will arrive in this GORGEOUS showroom!! I had begun to hear more and more about Rrivire and his company last year and then would see these OUTRAGEOUS decor items at different events. If you are looking for something that is amazing, different, fabulous, and unique then this is the place to go. He creates custom props and furniture for weddings and events. Everything is made in his warehouse and he can customize any piece to your wedding colors and what you are looking for. Enough chatting him up... I will just let you see for yourself!

Yes walls, couches, tables, lighting, etc. are all his creations that he made and that you can rent!!

This table is a fire pit and you could even cook s'mores on it! Awesome

Chandeliers galore and in all shapes and sizes.

All of these couches can be changed to different colors!!

A Culinary Adventure at the Waterfront

Hey there Wedding fans!

We wanted to share with all of you our fabulous menu tasting! Group menu tastings are a fun way to celebrate and experience a part of your wedding before the big day! We had beautiful linens, Stems created the floral arrangements, Wedding Cakes from Tomgirl Baking Company and our very own Chocolate Fountain! Yum!

We have different areas set up around the room for our brides and grooms to visit and help make important decisions for their big day! Tomgirl did a fabulous job with cake and cupcake displays! They are really known for the fabulous red velvet with cream cheese frosting! Stems provided all the arrangements on our beautiful sample tables and marble display! We show samples of what our standard set up is along with different upgrades that the hotel has available. My camera doesn't even do justice to her beautiful designs. We were able to showcase our chair covers, chivari chairs and chameleon chairs! Our golden table really glowed!

Our amazing culinary team created a fabulous menu for our guests to sample and the evening wouldn't be complete without our Sommelier, Patton, to assist guests with wine selection! What a wonderful evening...

We had a GORGEOUS wedding this week in our very own Grand Ballroom. The decor was absolutely stunning. The flowers, all shades of orange, were over the top. The designer was the infamous Square Root (http://www.squarerootdesigns.com/). The sweetheart table was my favorite. The ballroom was a glow! Hello Waterfront Groupies!

We must tell you what an AWESOME time we had at Your Wedding Day Magazine Event. If you are not familiar with this magazine you should definitely check it out http://www.yourweddingday.com/. The party started in a Victorian Garden with drinks and hors d' oeuvres . It is hear that we ran into a mystical magician. Seriously this guy was amazing! He managed to guess VRock's dog, Bingo's, name with no possible way of knowing it. Here is a pic
of the mystical man himself with a stuffed dog that spelled out BINGO on its collar. Too much for words!!

As our journey continued we ran into the fabulous Youngsong Martin, owner and founder of Wildflower Linens. Fabulous really does not capture her aura. Her linens are just as spectacular as the woman herself. Check it out http://www.wildflowerlinens.com/.

As the event continued we walked into the Marie Antoinette Room. The decor was beautiful as you can see. We ran into some models right off the runway! Don't we look fabulous!

The next room was our favorite. For all of our Indian Weddings (or fans of) you will love this next part. Needless to say we have a lot of pictures. They had Turkish Coffee which looked really cool but did not taste so hot. Get it? haaahaaahaa. The mundap was breathtaking. The entire room was decked out thanks to Nikki Khan with Exquisite Events. Thanks for that spectacular room!

While wondering through a sea of Gulab Jamun (traditional Indian dessert like donut holes in sugar syrup) we ran across an expert in Henna. Farah Manekia is incredibly talented and was able to pimp our hands henna style within five minutes. Check her out http://www.myfairbride.com/. You would think that she had a stencil or something but no it was all done freehand! To describe the experience it was like puff paint on your hands that dries into a beautiful work of art that lasts 7-10 days. Here is a fun fact for those who are not familiar with Henna and the tradition that it holds. Brides and their bridal party participate in a Henna Party the night before the wedding at this time they will paint their hands and sometimes feet with many elaborate designs. This tradition dates back hundreds of years when Henna was used to advert the "evil eye." This ritual changes her status from a child in her father’s house to a wife and potential mother in her husband’s house. COOL!!

It was truly an enjoyable evening of culture and entertainment. Of course we could not finish the night without a true tribute to all of our wedding blog fans! This one's for you!
